The Sofitel Abu Dhabi where Service and Style are One

The Sofitel in Abu Dhabi certainly knows how to impress, though I may be a little biased. You see, during checkin at this lovely hotel, we found we had been chosen at random as 'guests of the day'. This entitled us to a room upgrade to a suite and access to the Millesime Club, where nibbles (sometimes verging on proper meals) and beverages are available most of the day. What a score! So we happily followed reception to our room.

Wow, what a room! Sleek, modern decor greeted us as we opened the door. The bed and sofa were both super comfortable and the view to the corniche and the blue water beyond was superb. However, what really captured my heart was the bathroom. The tub was a dream, nice and wide with a tv, and there was a shower room... not a stall... a room with seating just in case you were overcome by the awesomeness of the rain shower and needed to sit down. And the bath products were Hermes Paris. My hair didn't know what hit it!

Eager to explore, we headed up to the club floor and decided to have some tea and dessert. We quickly decided on a secluded coffee table, set the camera down, and went to look at the cakes. A minute later we returned and what had been an empty table had now been perfectly set. To me, that's five star service: we didn't need to ask for it to be done and we didn't even see it happen. We've opted for club access on a number of other occasions, but this was something special! We had our tea and cake and decided we'd come back to the lounge in a few hours when wine and hors d'oeuvres were being served.

On our way back to the room we decided to check out the pool. It was a great area but it doesn't get much direct sun. I imagine this may well be a positive in summer, but in winter it was just too cold to sit out after using it so we decided to give it a miss. Instead we went back to have a bath and do a little work. At about 3pm there was an unexpected buzz at the door and room service brought in a plate of divine goodies: stuffed dates, baklava and other sweets. Lovely touch!

At 5:30 we headed back to the club to enjoy some wine - the first we'd had in almost a month! We were then made to feel like VIPs as guests of the day. We were given special attention and our glasses were never left empty. The hors d'oeuvres were very good and we quickly realised that with all the spoiling we definitely didn't need to go out for dinner.

After an awesome night's sleep and another bath or two, we went down to breakfast. Once again we weren't disappointed. The food, variety and service were all great. There were lots of fresh juices and food, and the eggs were cooked to perfection.

This is a fabulous hotel. My only regret is that we couldn't take advantage of the 4pm checkout we were offered. A Sofitel has recently opened in Auckland and I can't wait to have a stay-cation there. That said, it will really have to be extraordinary to rival Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche!
