I have to admit it, I'm not usually a fan of boutique hotels. I'm more of a tried and true big name know what I'm getting type of girl. However, a great airfare plus hotel package was on offer for the Vida Downtown in Dubai and after reading the reviews and looking at the location (right near the Burj Khalifa) we decided to take our chances and book it. Great decision! Upon check in we asked for a room on a high floor, which we were promptly given even though we were hours early. We were then escorted up to what may well have been the most efficiently designed room I've ever been in. Not the biggest of rooms, it nonetheless had everything you could possibly need. The bathtub separated from the bedroom by only Arabic-inspired latticework may not be to everyone's taste, but I loved it!
The bed was comfy and you could order room service and find out all the information you needed using the TV, so there were none of those tatty looking books with hotel information around. At the desk you also had access to outlets that a number of different countries' plugs could fit into which means you didn't need your own adapter.
After unpacking a little we headed to the pool. This was by far my favourite part of the hotel because it was surrounded by cabanas, some of them positioned over the water. At night these beds were transformed with cushions, tables and candles to create a great atmosphere for sipping a glass of wine or cup of Moroccan tea while chatting with friends late into the night.
The breakfast the next morning was the best I have had so far on the entire trip. There was a buffet that included a multitude of fresh juices and both Western and Arabic fare. But what really made it stand out was that you were then handed a menu to order your hot meal from and these were made fresh. Let me tell you, I can highly recommend the Shakshuka! And after we finished that hot meal they offered up another! I have to admit, I had to pass on that one. So in short, if you're looking for a hotel in a great location that is well set up with a wonderful atmosphere, look no further than the Vida. It certainly won me over!
