Courtyard by Marriott Abu Dhabi

The Marriott is one of our favourite hotels, so we were delighted to see that a Courtyard had just opened at the World Trade Centre, Abu Dhabi. It was so new it was still in the midst of a soft opening so we decided to give it a test drive and see what it was like.

The hotel is in an excellent location as it is directly attached to the World Trade Centre Mall through their 5th Street Cafe (very chic!) and very near the corniche. The lobby area is on the small side, but we aren't ones for hanging out there so that didn't bother us. Checkin went smoothly and before we knew it we were settled into our nice, new room. One thing to note, in the standard room category only the twin rooms have a bathtub, so if that's important to you (as it is to us), book a twin. The room was up to the usual Marriott standards and had a nice view to the street (some don't).

The pool area is a great place to relax with full sun on it much of the day. Surprisingly, while we were there it wasn't busy, but this may have been because it was winter or because the hotel is so new there weren't many guests. Either way, the peace and quiet suited us! There's a heated jacuzzi at the pool as well and we took full advantage of it. On our second day we ordered Mezze by the pool and the service and food quality were excellent.

Although breakfast wasn't included with our room rate we decided to pay for the buffet at the Bisto Restaurant in the hotel. We really liked the decor and it was nice to sit overlooking the street. Once again, both the service and food were generally great. The only suggestion I would make is to extend the selection of fresh juices to include vegetable juices and a wider selection of fruit.

For a hotel that has just opened, we see a lot of potential for an excellent future. Because it wasn't really busy yet, the service was a bit TOO good at times (five different people asking how your breakfast is does cross the border between attentive into annoying) but I think that once the place is in full operation this won't be an issue at all. Everyone really went out of their way to be helpful and the guys on the door would always run out to the main road to flag down a taxi when we needed one. That extra effort really makes a difference in the way guests experience a hotel so well done! We've always found Courtyard Marriotts to be a solid four star choice and with its stellar location, attentive service and new facilities, this one will not disappoint.
