India: Mountains & Mughals April/May 2019

2019 will begin with the best photo tour to India yet!  In 13 days we will cover four of India's most fabulous regions.

This is nearly the same tour as India: Mughals and Mountains Apr 2019, but done in reverse. Commencing in Leh, Ladakh on the afternoon of April 29th.  The benefits of kicking off in Leh are that some participants might like to arrive a day or so early to help themselves acclimatise, this is especially important if you don't think you'll handle the altitude so well. I will quote you a few extra days' hotel booking if needed, just let me know when you pay your deposit.  When you book your flights to India you MUST also book your connecting to flight to Leh (DEL-IXL).

We will spend five days exploring Ladakh's monasteries, attending the dawn Pujas of Buddhist monks - if we're lucky witnessing the great horn blowers at Thiksey Monastery - we'll stand in awe on the shores of a great high-altitude salt lake, visit the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus Rivers, and have copious opportunities to photograph the ethnic-Tibetan artisans and local folk that inhabit this isolated part of the globe.  A visit to Ladakh is a must on anyone's bucket list and this part of the tour is run in conjunction with local experts from Ladakh Travel Co. who will ensure you get the most out of your time up here in the Indian Himalaya.

After Ladakh we take a morning flight to the mega-metropolis of New Delhi where we will explore some incredible Mughal architecture, the country's largest mosque and Asia's largest spice market.  Delhi is where you will be able to freely explore with your camera capturing fabulous street photography, and document the daily lives of the people of this exciting city.  It is my favourite place in all India!

Then it's onto the express train to Agra, the home of the Taj Mahal.  We will have ample opportunity to photograph the Taj, from sunset across the Yamuna River to a dawn visit to the Taj itself.  And have dinner at one of the rooftop restaurants affording us great views, in gorgeous soft light, of the Taj Mahal across the city.

Next we venture to Rishikesh for some spiritualism and the incredible Ganges River, one of the holiest places in all India and a must visit for Hindu pilgrims and travellers alike.  Rishikesh is also well-chilled, both figuratively and literally, and this great vibe has us wandering the streets at will photographing sadhus (Hindu holy men) and travelling pilgrims as they bathe in the Ganges' sacred waters.  We will attend an aarti ceremony and visit the famous Beatles' Ashram while here.

Our tour will end back in New Delhi for a last evening in the tourist mecca of the Paharganj.  Included are airport transfers the following day to get you to the airport on time and onto your flight home.

This photo tour is about chaperoning you to the best spots at the best time of day, leaving you free to focus on your photography your way.  I will handle and arrange, with the help of Ladakh Travel Co. where required, all the logistics of getting us to and from said locations with as much ease as is possible in a country of over a billion people.  Partners, husbands, wives, girlfriends are welcome.  It's not necessary to be a budding photographer to attend.  The focus is on visiting the best locations and taking photos, but with what device you take them is up to you - everything from an iPhone to a Hasselblad is appropriate.

The tour will go ahead with a minimum of 4 attendees and a maximum of 9. If you have any questions please contact me.

Final payment MUST be made by November 1st, 2018.  Deposits are NON-Refundable. Deposits and payments can be made via NZ bank transfers or via Paypal, though Paypal incurs a fee.  Email me if you'd prefer to pay via credit card through Paypal.
