2019 will begin with the best photo tour to India yet! In 13 days we will cover four of India's most fabulous regions.
Commencing in the mega-metropolis of New Delhi we will explore some incredible Mughal architecture, the country's largest mosque and Asia's largest spice market. Delhi is where you will be able to freely explore with your camera capturing fabulous street photography and documenting the daily lives of the people of this exciting city. It is my favourite place in all India!
After a couple of nights in Delhi to recover from your long flight and photographing street life we take a return express train to Agra, the home of the Taj Mahal. We will have ample opportunity to photograph the Taj, from a sunset boat ride in front of the Taj on the the Yamuna River to a dawn visit to the Taj itself. Then we will have dinner/snacks at one of the rooftop restaurants affording us great views of the Taj Mahal across the city in gorgeous soft light.
Next stop, Rishikesh - the Ganges River, one of the holiest places in all India and a must-visit for Hindu pilgrims and travellers alike. Rishikesh is also well-chilled, both figuratively and literally, and this great vibe has us wandering the streets at will photographing sadhus (Hindu holy men) and travelling pilgrims as they bathe in the Ganges' sacred waters. We will attend an aarti ceremony and visit the famous Beatles' Ashram while here.
Lastly, and for some most excitingly, we head back to New Delhi for our flight to Ladakh! Here we will spend five days exploring the monasteries, and attending the dawn Puja of Buddhist monks - if we're lucky witnessing the horn blowers at Thiksey Monastery - we'll stand in awe on the shores of a great high-altitude salt lake, visit the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus Rivers, and have copious opportunities to meet and photograph the ethnic-Tibetan artisans and local folk that inhabit this isolated part of the globe. A visit to Ladakh is a must on anyone's bucket list and this part of the tour is run in conjunction with local experts from Ladakh Travel Co. who will ensure you get the most out of your time up here in the Indian Himalaya. We will have an English speaking local guide and our own personal driver for the duration of our time in Ladakh.
Our tour will end in Leh, Ladakh on the morning of April 27th. Ending the tour in Leh gives participants the opportunity to extend their time in Ladakh if one wishes. If you are interested in furthering your journey, I can hook you up with extension visits to the Nubra Valley or elsewhere. Your flight back to New Delhi can easily connect with your departure home as flights depart from Leh early in the morning. We do, however, recommend you spend a night in a Delhi airport hotel (there are plenty to choose from, including the JW Marriott, among other brand hotels) in case there are flight delays.
