It's Summer guys, so we need to take advantage of this brilliant weather. Therefore, it's time to catch a West Coast sunset at New Zealand's most famous beach Piha.
In the past we have usually only photographed from the beach, and we will start at beach level on this workshop too - hopefully we'll catch a few surfers in the afternoon's golden light - but by the time sunset is approaching we're going to walk the cliffs and shoot the sunset over Taitomo Island and back towards Lion Rock. It's a short walk, but a little steep early on. Bring a torch or headlamp for the walk back down to the cars. Please note where to park: at the very end of Marine Drive, not at the Surf Club nor the Cafe end of the beach. The meeting location is at the far left end of the beach nearer to Camel Rock.
Gear: Bring your tripod, filters, remote trigger and even a jacket as it's sure to be somewhat windy at least. It'll be low tide at 7pm, but it will turn after that, so we'll head off the beach and up the hill. A wide lens is always best when shooting landscapes, but here we'll be quite a ways back from our subject too, so a nice standard zoom will also work well.
